Read about it here.
This is a California Court, people, with a 3-0 decision! Of course it's SoCal, so the California Supreme Court should be able to overturn this crap.
I'm so disgusted by this ruling, I just can't believe it. These are not students that proclaim to be gay: the principle questioned them and decided that they were lesbians and kicked them out! Now, I'm not in favor of kicking any children out of school, regardless of what they say their sexuality is; but, to rule that a school can decided who they think is gay and who is straight, and then just toss out whomever they like is a thoroughly UN-AMERICAN thing to do. It's like the Christians in this country are no longer Americans, they are just Christians and subject only to the ideals and values their preachers spout.
Now, these girls did not CHOOSE to go to this religious school, their parents sent them there! To pull children into offices, question them about their sexual habits and feelings, and then to toss them out on their asses--I mean, these are PEOPLE here. CHILDREN! What if they aren't gay? What if they are unsure? What if they are experimenting? You just throw them out? Are they less than human? If they are not fornicating in class, what's the big deal? Christians love to spout that it's a choice to be gay, yet they treat them like less-than-human creatures, that somehow deserve less respect, love and now education, than the rest. If it's a choice, then shouldn't you be trying to take the other (ridiculous) road of re-educating them to turn them straight? You're giving up on your students! Could it be that they finally realize that their re-education (camps) don't work and that GOD created them?
I'd also like to reiterate that it is not any of the children's fault for their sexuality. I don't see how someone could punish them for this and call themselves Christian. I think that this should be a wake-up call to all those non-religious parents who send their children to Christian schools to get a better education--Expect a Nazi-esque interrogation by an absurd administrator about their sexuality, and "God" knows what else. Perhaps they will be inspecting your daughters hymens next, and if they find a broken one, they will kick your slutty whore of a daughter out!
Don't you see how this Conservative Christian agenda is the new threat to American Civil Liberties? Anything goes if you scream religion!
Here's what the justice that wrote the opinion said, "The whole purpose of sending one's child to a religious school is to ensure that he or she learns even secular subjects within a religious framework," Justice Betty Richli said in the 3-0 ruling, issued Monday." --How does having gay classmates hurt a child's ability to learn secular subjects within a religious framework? Does having them in the class, and say, having the other students in the class know that the student is gay, does that somehow detract from the teachings in the class? Does their mere presence stifle the learning abilities of the other students? Does having them in the class mean that the school is okay with homosexuality? If Bobby is gay, and the school allows him to attend, that must mean that the school is promoting gay-ness, right? What kind of fucking illogical thinking is this? Why don't you leave them in class to learn the error of their ways, give them an opportunity to see the light? You know why? Because Christians are scared of gay people. They'd put them in internment camps if they could, all because it makes them feel icky.
Check this out: "John McKay, a lawyer for California Lutheran, said he was pleased the court recognized that "a religious school is not a business, and the purpose of a religious school is to teach Christian values." Did the girls refuse to learn the christian values? Did the principle say, "don't be gay or your out?" Did they indeed love one another and refuse to say otherwise, even when interrogated by some jerk in a suit? How can Christian's go around talking about Jesus's love, but throw out 16 year old girls who profess love to one another? Love's okay, as long as it fits in this neat little box?
Basically, this ruling is rife with incompetent interpretations of the law, the spirit of the law, and is fueled by fear and bigotry. I'm disgusted and amazed that we still have such idiots running things. A sad day for California.
